“Cabo Delgado is facing a protection crisis. This province is facing widespread violence and several violations against basic human rights. There are women, men, children losing their homes, seeing their villages burned, being kidnapped, killed, raped, forced into armed recruitment and forced into child marriage. They need to be protected and they need to find safety”. |

Media www.rajawalisiber.com – A true humanitarian tragedy is happening in Mozambique. Nearly 700,000 people have been forced to flee by an escalating insurgency in the Cabo Delgado northern province.
Brutal attacks by armed groups are dramatically increasing, with horrific reports of beheading – including of children – and rape. The latest deadly attack in Palma killed dozens and forced thousands to flee on foot or by boat. They arrived to safer towns in distress and traumatized, with very few belongings.
We need your help TODAY.
Women and children are the majority of those displaced and the most at risk of violence and abuse. The COVID-19 pandemic, frequent natural disasters and economic and development struggles are exacerbating the crisis in Cabo Delgado.
UNHCR is on the ground providing lifesaving emergency assistance and protection services to those forced to flee, such as psychosocial first aid, prevention and response to gender based violence, shelter materials, sleeping mats, blankets, kitchen sets, buckets, jerry cans and solar lamps.
But the needs are growing by the day, and we cannot stop this spiral of vulnerability alone.
