The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (UN DPPA) Innovation Cell is an interdisciplinary team dedicated to helping the Department and its field presences to understand and explore, pilot, and scale new technologies, tools, and practices in conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding.
In 2021, the Innovation Cell partnered with the software company Remesh to launch a series of artificial intelligence-enabled digital dialogues with citizens in conflict-affected States. Remesh is a digital platform that allows you to engage in a live conversation with up to 1,000 people while gaining qualitative insights into the participants’ opinions.
Using case studies from Yemen, Libya, and Iraq, the Innovation Cell explains how AI-assisted digital dialogues can meaningfully enhance inclusivity and engage diverse voices in peace processes. During the digital dialogues, citizens were able to anonymously share with UN leadership their opinions, hopes and wishes for their country. The platform’s AI analyzed the participants’ responses in real-time, helping UN officials better understand the views of peace constituencies.
