The Black Sea’s strategic location makes it critical to the security of NATO’s south eastern flank and to stability in the Greater Mediterranean region.

Russia’s military aggression in Ukraine, military presence in Georgia, and buildup of its military capabilities in the Black Sea has undermined both of these.

Fundamentally, both Russia and NATO see the region as key to securing their interests and projecting power beyond it. How can the United States work with its allies and partners in the region to better ensure their security and counter Russian influence?
