How Will the Ukraine Crisis Affect Middle East Policy?

From The Washington Institute

Media www.rajawalisiber.com – As Russian forces roll into Ukraine and the crisis escalates in uncertain directions, The Washington Institute announces a virtual Policy Forum with three of its experts to discuss the potential consequences for U.S. policy next door in the Middle East.

Anna Borshchevskaya, a senior fellow in the Institute’s Glazer Program on Great Power Competition and the Middle East and author of the recent book Putin’s War in Syria, will examine how Moscow’s strategic aims in Ukraine and the Middle East intermesh, and how these parallels might affect competition with Washington.

Soner Cagaptay, the head of the Institute’s Turkish Research Program, will address questions about Ankara’s potential response. How might Turkey’s internal economic and political problems affect its approach? How far will its relations with Ukraine go? And how much do its positions align with those of other NATO countries?

Grant Rumley, a senior fellow in the Glazer Program and former Middle East policy advisor at the Pentagon, will assess the U.S. military posture in light of the invasion, what implications the crisis may hold for America’s presence in the Middle East, and how key regional partners might perceive the U.S. response.
