ASEAN Leaders Meet to Discuss Situation in Myanmar

” President Jokowi Attends ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting, Jakarta, 24 April 2021″


Media – Leaders and representatives of ASEAN countries are participating in the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting (ALM) which will be held at the ASEAN Secretariat building, Jakarta, on Saturday, April 24, 2021.

This time ALM was held at the invitation of the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, Hassanal Bolkiah, as the Chair of ASEAN.

Previously, Indonesia initiated this ALM to discuss and reach an agreement as well as a good solution for the people of Myanmar.

Apart from being attended by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and President Joko Widodo, a number of leaders or representatives from ASEAN countries attended the meeting.

Appearing at the meeting were Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Philippine Foreign Minister as Special Envoy for the Philippines Teodoro L. Locsin Jr., Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand as Special Envoy for Thailand Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos as Special Envoy for Laos Saleumxay Kommasith, as well as Myanmar Military Commander General Min Aung Hlaing also attended the ALM this time this.

It is hoped that the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting will be able to reach an agreement on steps that are good for the people of Myanmar and help Myanmar to be able to get out of the current situation.

In addition, the leaders or representatives of ASEAN countries also share the same determination to share views for the benefit of the Myanmar people.
